summary

Paul tells the Thessalonian church that he longs to see them and fill up what is lacking in their faith, then immediately prays that God would make their love for one another and for all people overflow. That overflowing love is not only a mark of Christian maturity but also the pathway by which God establishes holiness in his people as they await Christ’s return. Advent love, then, is not passive sentiment but intentional, prayerful, outward-moving love that prepares believers to live faithfully before God and toward others.
